Desonate skin care cream is a topical cream used for the treatment of treat atopic dermatitis, a skin condition commonly referred to as eczema. It belongs to a group of drugs known as corticosteroids steroids. To use this medication, apply a small amount to the affected area twice daily. It normally comes in form of a gel and has the active ingredient of desonide gel in it which belongs to a group of medications known as topical steroids and is used to treat mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis in people age three months and older. Atopic dermatitis is commonly referred to as eczema.

Desonate skin care cream (Desonide Gel) is used mostly for its anti-inflammatory or immune-suppressing properties. Desonate skin cream works for atopic dermatitis by decreasing inflammation or suppressing an overactive immune system. Topical steroids should be used for only a short time in order to avoid undesirable or even dangerous side effects. Desonate skin cream should not be used for more than four weeks at a time. How to Use

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Desonate include the following:

  • This medication is usually applied to the affected area twice a day.
  • Apply Desonate skin cream (Desonide Gel) carefully and gently rub it in. It is also suggested not use more than the recommended dosage.
  • Apply a thin film is necessary for the affected area.
  • Do not cover the medication with a dressing or bandage.
  • For this product to work properly, it must be used as prescribed

Cautions before using

The cautions that are to be taken with Desonate are as follows:

  • It is not recommended to use Desonate skin care cream (Desonide Gel) for more than four weeks at a time. Although the drug is very effective, it should not be used on a long-term basis.
  • Desonate skin care cream can suppress the body’s ability to make natural steroids. Usually, this happens when large doses are used over a long time, which is not recommended.
  • Desonate skin care cream should be stopped slowly to give your body a chance to begin making natural steroids again. If this is not possible, you might need to be given an oral steroid for a while, after which you will be slowly withdraw from the oral steroid.
  • Desonate skin cream is considered a pregnancy Category C medication. This means that it may not be safe for use during pregnancy.
