Protopic

Protopic skin cream is a drug that is applied to the skin that is used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis or eczema. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic disease of skin in which the skin becomes inflamed, causing itchiness, redness, swelling, and cracking, weeping, crusting, and scaling. Protopic skin cream has the composition of Tacrolimus in it, which is a prescribed medication for treating eczema. Protopic skin cream ointment suppresses the immune system and the inflammation by inhibiting an enzyme crucial for the multiplication of T-cells, cells that are required for activation of the immune system.

Protopic skin cream ointment was approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in December 2000. Eczema is an allergic-type condition that causes red, irritated, and itchy skin. This drug works by weakening the skin’s immune system, thereby decreasing the allergic reaction and relieving the eczema. Protopic skin cream belongs to a class of drugs known as topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs).
