Teveten

Generic Name:Eprosartan Mesylate

Teveten is a prescription medicine approved to help lower high blood pressure. It works by blocking a chemical in the body that causes the blood vessels to constrict. As a result, blood vessels relax and blood pressure lowers. Teveten comes in tablet form and is taken once or twice a day. Teveten has the active ingredient of eprosartan mesylate which is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure medically known as hypertension. It can be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure medicines. Teveten is also available with another name of Teveten HCT which is also used for the same purpose. Teveten is prescribed for high blood pressure treatment in adults. It works by blocking a specific chemical in the body that causes the blood vessels to narrow. By blocking these chemicals, the drug helps lower blood pressure by causing the blood vessels to relax. Some other uses of Teveten include the treatment of kidney disease and congestive heart failure.

How to use Teveten Tablets

  • Teveten comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth once or twice daily.
  • Try to take your Teveten dose at the same time each day to maintain an even level in your blood.
  • You can take your dosages with or without food.
  • For this medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.

Cautions before Use Teveten Tablets

  • Teveten can cause a potentially dangerous swelling below the surface of the skin, called angioedema, especially within the first month of treatment.
  • Sweating, dehydration which may occur if you do not drink enough fluids, vomiting, and diarrhea could cause your blood pressure to lower to unsafe levels while taking Teveten.
  • You should not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium without first checking with your healthcare provider. Teveten may cause an increase in blood potassium levels and taking products that contain potassium may further increase the level of potassium in your blood.
  • Teveten may cause a decrease in kidney function, especially in people who are elderly, and have kidney disease are advised to not to take this medicine.
  • Teveten is a dangerous medication to be taken during pregnancy as it may cause harm to the unborn child.

Teveten Tablets Side Effects

The side effects which may arise due to the usage of Teveten are as follows:

  • Chest pain
  • Feelings of a rapidly or forcefully beating heart (heart palpitations)
  • An abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, hands, or feet
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  • Decreased urine production
  • Signs of an allergic reaction
  • Cough Fatigue
  • Injury

Interactions and Overdose of Teveten Tablets

Teveten can negatively react with products such as aspirin, Advil, or potassium-sparing diuretics. These interactions can cause the body to metabolize the medications differently than intended, possibly increasing your risk for side effects or decreasing the medications’ effectiveness. Teveten can severely react with potassium products too.

Effects of an overdose with Teveten can vary but may include extremely low blood pressure, decreased urination, or an irregular heart rate. These conditions will require immediate medical support.
