Valsartan is commonly used to treat conditions related to the cardiovascular system, such as high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, and to help improve survival after a heart attack. It works by helping more blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body. Valsartan has the generic name Valsartan, which is also the active ingredient of the drug, and a prescribed medicine that has been licensed to treat several conditions related to the heart and blood vessels. It is part of a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers, or ARBs for short. Valsartan is manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. There are several reasons why Valsartan may be prescribed, including controlling high blood pressure, treating congestive heart failure, and helping improve the survival rates of heart attack patients. Valsartan has been shown to relax the blood vessels, which can significantly lower blood pressure and allow more blood to be pumped to the rest of the body. In addition, people who have developed heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction following a heart attack can decrease their chances of death by 16 percent with daily use of Valsartan.

How to use Valsartan Tablets

  • The dose of Valsartan that you are prescribed depends on your age and weight and the medical condition being treated, among other things.
  • The medication comes in tablet form. It is usually taken once or twice a day.
  • Valsartan may be taken with or without food.
  • Your Valsartan dosage should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level in your blood.
  • For the medication to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Valsartan will not work if you stop taking it.

Cautions before Use Valsartan Tablets

  • While taking Valsartan, do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes with potassium unless you have discussed this with your doctor. This is because in some people taking Valsartan, potassium in the blood can increase to dangerous levels.
  • Valsartan may cause a decrease in kidney function, especially in people who are elderly, and have kidney disease should avoid Valsartan.
  • If you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant it is suggested that to consult your healthcare provider before taking Valsartan as it may cause risk to the unborn baby.
  • Valsartan may cause extremely low blood pressure in some people. Extremely low blood pressure is more likely to happen in people who are taking a diuretic, who are on dialysis, who have diarrhea or vomiting,

Drug interactions can decrease your blood pressure too much, cause your body to metabolize the medicines differently than intended, and alter the levels of some drugs in your blood.

Symptoms of Valsartan overdose may include extremely low blood pressure, Dizziness, Increased heart rate, increased levels of potassium in the blood, Kidney failure Loss of consciousness and thus should seek medical attention.
