Temozolomide is a prescribed medication which is commonly given to those patients who are suffering from brain tumor. This medicine interferes with the development of cancer cells, slowing their growth and spread in the body. This medication is used to treat certain types of brain cancer. It is a chemotherapy drug that works by slowing cancer cell growth. In some patients, temozolomide decreases the size of brain tumor. This medication may also be used to treat other types of cancer such as bone cancer.

How to Use Temozolomide Tablets

  • Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor. To reduce nausea and vomiting, take it on an empty stomach like1 hour before or 3 hours after a meal or at bedtime, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
  • To make sure the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level, take it at the same time every day in relation to a meal always 1 hour before the evening meal or always 3 hours after the evening meal.
  • Swallow the capsules whole with a full glass of water. The dosage is based on your medical condition, body size, and response to therapy.
  • Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules. If the capsules are accidentally opened or damaged, avoid inhaling the medication, and do not let it touch the skin or mucous membranes such as inside the nose. If contact occurs, flush the area with water.

Cautions before Use Temozolomide Tablets

  • People suffering from decreased bone marrow function, blood cell disorders such as anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia are advised to not to take this medication.
  • People suffering from liver diseases should not take this medication.
  • People suffering from kidney diseases should not take this medication.
  • Pregnant women are advised to not to take this medication as this may cause harm to the unborn child.
  • Temozolomide can lower blood cells that help your body fight infections. This can make it easier for you to bleed from an injury or get sick from being around others who are ill.

Temozolomide Tablets Side Effects

The side Effects which may arise due to the usage of Temozolomide are as follows:

  • Hair loss
  • Tired feeling
  • Diarrhea, constipation
  • Mild skin rash
  • Dizziness, blurred vision
  • Sleep problems or insomnia
  • Unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth
  • Seizures
  • Numbness
  • Pain or burning sensation while passing urine
  • White patches inside the mouth or lips
  • Dry Cough

Interactions and Overdose of Temozolomide Tablets

This medicine may severely react with any medicines that contain nalidixic acid.

Overdose symptoms of Temozolomide may include fever, pale skin, increased thirst, dry skin, easy bruising or bleeding, confusion, weakness, and urinating less than usual or not at all. These conditions are taken under strict medical support.
