Generic Name:triptorelin

Triptorelin is a man-made hormone which helps to regulate the many processes in the body. Triptorelin over stimulates the body's own production of certain hormones which causes that particular production to shut down temporarily.

Triptorelin helps in the treatment of prostate cancer.

Triptorelin treats only the symptoms of prostate cancer and does not the cancer itself.

How to use Triptorelin Injections

Triptorelin may be used as follows:

  • Triptorelin is injected in the body via the muscle.
  • Always read the patient instructions for safe and effective use. Try and follow these directions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand any of the instructions.
  • Triptorelin is available in a vial (bottle) of powder medicine and a prefilled syringe of sterile water.
  • Remember to mix the powder with sterile water before using the medicine. Remember to prepare your dose in a syringe only when you are ready to give yourself an injection.
  • Never try to t save the mixture for later use.
  • Never use the medication if it has changed colors or has particles in it.
  • Triptorelin is given once every 4 12 or 24 weeks. Your dose schedule will depend on the strength of this medicine.
  • It may be possible that after your injection your prostate cancer symptoms may get worse for a short time as Triptorelin can raise your testosterone levels. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse while using this medicine.
  • Get your blood tested regularly to be sure if Triptorelin is helping your condition. Visit your doctor regularly.
  • Remember that each single use vial (bottle) of this medicine is for one use only. Always throw away after one use even if there is still some medicine left in it after injecting your dose.

Cautions before Use Triptorelin Injections

A dose adjustment may be required if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • High cholesterol (especially in men)
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Recent weight gain
  • High blood pressure
  • Cancer which has spread to your spine
  • High cholesterol
  • A bladder obstruction
  • Problems with urination
  • A history of heart attack or stroke or
  • If you smoke

Triptorelin Injections Side Effects

Stop using Triptorelin and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • Headache
  • Bone pain
  • Painful or difficult urination
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Burning sensation when you urinate
  • Body aches
  • Flu symptoms
  • Loss of movement in any part of the body
  • Chest pain
  • Nausea
  • Blood in the urine
  • Sweating
  • General ill feeling

Less serious side effects

  • Breast pain or swelling
  • Vomiting
  • Back pain
  • Nausea
  • Hot flashes
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Decreased interest in sex
  • Tired feeling
  • Diarrhea
  • Upset stomach
  • Sleep problems
  • Pain where the medicine was injected

Triptorelin Injections Interaction

When certain medications are taken together with Triptorelin drug interactions could occur that may affect the efficacy of the medicines. Triptorelin can interact with medicines such prescriptions over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products resulting in serious side effects.
