Clobetasol Shampoo

Clobetasol is a skin care treatment used for the skin ailments formed on the hair scalp known as scalp psoriasis. Clobetasol is used in adults to treat moderate to severe scalp psoriasis. Clobetasol reduces the swelling, itching and redness that can occur with this condition. This medication is a very strong (super-high-potency) corticosteroid. This medication is not recommended for use in children or those less than 18 years of age due to an increased risk of side effects. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details. Clobetasol is also available in a Generic name of Clobex and Clobevate in other forms of topical cream and lotions. However, Clobetasol actually is available in the form of shampoo which as to be applied according to the directions or according to the healthcare provider and only on scalp.

How to Use

While using this shampoo try to avoid contact with the eyes, nose and mouth. Do not tie bandages, wrap or cover the affected area such as avoid using shower caps or bathing caps unless directed by your doctor. Apply a thin film of shampoo to your dry scalp by squeezing the bottle directly over the affected area, once daily, or as directed by your doctor. Gently rub the shampoo into the affected area, leaving it on your scalp for 15 minutes. Wash your hands immediately after applying the shampoo. Then wet your scalp, lather, and rinse the shampoo off thoroughly. Also, rinse any other body parts like hands, face, neck, shoulders that may have come in contact with the shampoo. The use of another non-medicated shampoo is not necessary to clean your hair, although it may be used if desired. Do not apply this medication to your face, neck, groin, or underarms. Avoid using this medication close to the eyes or lips.

Cautions before using

There are some safety measures which should be applied before using Clobetasol Shampoo are as follows:

  • Before using clobetasol, make sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to any other steroids such as hydrocortisone, dexamethasone or in case if you have any other allergies.
  • Stay away from this skin care product if you are having other skin/scalp conditions such as rosacea, or perioral dermatitis.
  • If your immune system is weak then do not use Clobetasol shampoo.
  • People who are having diabetes should not use Clobetasol Shampoo.

Clobetasol Side Effects

There are some side effect which may occur with the usage of Clobetasol Shampoo and they are as follows:

  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Irritation
  • Hair loss
  • Dry scalp
  • Headache
  • Acne
  • Discoloration of the skin
  • Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may like rashes, itching/swelling especially of the face, tongue, and throat.
  • Severe Dizziness
  • Trouble in Breathing

Reactions and Overdose

Clobetasol Shampoo can have reactions with any herbal, prescribed or non-prescribed medicines and especially it may react with oral corticosteroids such as prednisone, drugs that suppress the immune system i.e. cyclosporine.

Overdose symptoms can occur if swallowed, it may cause poisonous effect, and the patient must seek doctor.
