Generic Name:Flavoxate

Urispas is a prescribed medication used to treat muscle spasms of the bladder and urinary tract.This medication is used to treat certain bladder/urinary tract symptoms. It has the active ingredient of Flavoxate which is a smooth-muscle relaxant. It works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder. Urispas helps to reduce leaking of urine, feelings of needing to urinate right away, frequent trips to the bathroom, and bladder pain. This medication does not treat the cause of your bladder symptoms such as urinary tract/bladder/prostate infection or inflammation. Urispas is used to treat bladder symptoms such as frequent or urgent urination, increased night-time urination, bladder pain, and incontinence or urine leakage. These bladder symptoms are often caused by overactive bladder, prostate enlargement, bladder infections, or irritation of the urethra.

How to Use Urispas Tablets

  • Take this medication by mouth, usually 3-4 times a day or as directed by your doctor. Take with food if stomach upset occurs.
  • The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Your doctor may lower your dose after your symptoms have improved.
  • The length of treatment depends on the cause of the problem.
  • Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often without your doctor’s approval.

Cautions before Use Urispas Tablets

  • If you have stomach or intestinal blockage such as pyloric/duodenal obstruction, ileus then you may not get advice to take this medication.
  • People suffering from heart problems such as fast or irregular heartbeat, heart failure are advised to not to take this medication.
  • Those patients having a certain eye condition such as glaucoma are advised to not to take this medication.
  • People suffering from stomach/intestinal problems such as, infection, acid-reflux disease, chronic constipation, ulcerative colitis are advised to not to take this medicine.
  • People with a medical history of overactive thyroid are advised to not to take this drug.

Urispas Tablets Side Effects

The side effects which may arise due to the usage of Urispas are as follows:

  • Dry mouth;
  • Blurred vision;
  • Nausea, vomiting;
  • Drowsiness and nervousness;
  • Spinning sensation;
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Hot, dry skin and extreme thirst;
  • Confusion
  • Pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest
  • Urinating less than usual or not at all

Interactions and Overdose of Urispas Tablets

This medicine may react with pramlintide tropine, belladonna alkaloids, scopolamine, benztropine, trihexyphenidyl), antispasmodic drugs (e.g., clidinium, dicyclomine), bisphosphonate drugs (e.g., alendronate, etidronate, risedronate), potassium tablets/capsules. Make sure if you are taking some medications like certain antihistamines such as diphenhydramine), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), medicine for sleep or anxiety such as alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers like codeine), psychiatric medicines such aschlorpromazine, risperidone, amitriptyline, trazodone.

Symptoms of overdose of Urispas may include slow/shallow breathing, hallucination, seizures, loss of consciousness. In case of these conditions people should take immediate medical support.
