Generic Name:Acetaminophen and Butalbital

Tencon is a prescribed medicine found in combination of three drugs and found in capsule form for oral administration. These capsules are indicated for the relief of severe headache for the complexities of headache. This medicine acts in two different ways as Acetaminophen acts as a pain reliever and fever reducer. Butalbital is in a group of drugs called barbiturates. It relaxes muscle contractions involved in a tension headache. It relaxes muscle contractions in blood vessels to improve blood flow. The combination of acetaminophen, Butalbital is used to treat tension headaches that are caused by muscle contractions.

How to use Tencon Capsules

  • Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually every 4 hours as needed.
  • If you are using the liquid form of this medication, carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • This medication works best if it is used as the first signs of a headache occur. If you wait until the headache has worsened, the medication may not work as well. This medication may cause withdrawal reactions, especially if it has been used regularly for a long time or in high doses.
  • In such cases, withdrawal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting may occur if you suddenly stop using this medication. To prevent withdrawal reactions, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually. Report any withdrawal reactions immediately .Along with its benefits, this medication may rarely cause abnormal drug addiction.

Cautions before Use Tencon Capsules

  • Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to acetaminophen, or butalbital; and make sure that you do not take this this medicine without doctors permission as it cause addiction.
  • Those patients are having the problems of stomach ulcer or any intestinal disorder should not take this medicine.
  • People who have complains of kidney ailments should not take Tencon.
  • This medication may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or operate any heavy machinery after taking this medication.
  • People who are suffering from liver ailments are advised to not to take this medicine.
  • People who have drug or alcohol addiction are advised to not to take this medication.

Tencon Capsules Side Effects

The side effects which may arise with the usage of Tencon are as follows:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Shaking (tremor)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Increased urination
  • Lightheadedness
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Mental or mood changes
  • Fainting
  • Seizures
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Severe dizziness
  • Trouble breathing

Interactions and Overdose of Tencon Capsules

Tencon may interact with sleeping pills, sedatives, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxers, seizure medications, medicines for depression and MAO inhibitors including furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine.

Over dosage of Tencon includes drowsiness, dark urine, yellowing of skin, confusion, and coma; respiratory depression; hypotension, stomach pain, sweating, and weakness. These symptoms could be dangerous if not taken immediate medical support.
