Altinac is a skin care treatment drug used for treating acne among the patients. It has the composition of Tretinoin, which is form of Vitamin A and can be used as a topical skin cream to be applied on the skin. Altinac skin cream is used in the treatment of mild to moderate acne and on skin that has been damaged by excessive exposure to the sun. Altinac skin cream irritates the skin and causes the cells of the skin to grow or divide and die more rapidly, increasing the turnover of cells.

By a similar mechanism, Altinac skin cream can diminish some wrinkles, areas of darkened skin, and rough areas of skin, all of which occur in sun-damaged skin. In patients with sun-damaged skin, improvements in the skin usually are seen within the first 3 to 4 weeks of treatment. Brown spots start on to fade after six to eight weeks. Wrinkles reduce or disappear after three to six months. Following application to the skin, a minimal amount of Altinac skin cream is absorbed into the body. Since 1971the, FDA has also approved topical use of Altinac.

How to Use

Before applying Altinac skin cream, the affected area of the skin should be cleansed with soap and dried. Patients should then wait until 20 to 30 minutes before applying Altinac skin cream, followed by gently rubbing it into the affected area. The hands should be washed immediately after application. Altinac skin cream is usually applied once daily, in the evening. It should be noticed that after applying Altinac skin cream the area should not be washed with water. In addition to it should also be taken care that the skin cream should be applied firm with lesser amount as the thick application may cause allergies and pilling as Altinac skin cream comes in the form of gel.

Cautions before Using

There are some cautions that are to be taken while using Altinac skin cream:

  • The patients are suggested to apply sunscreen with SPF 15 before going out when they are using Altinac skin cream on a regular basis as it may cause sun sensitivity.
  • Avoid applying Altinac skin cream on face, eyes, nose and lips.
  • There are no adequate studies of Altinac skin cream use during pregnancy. Physicians must consider the potential risks and benefits before prescribing Altinac skin cream during pregnancy.
  • It has found in studies that oral usage of Altinac is not recommended during lactation, it probably is cautious and should be avoided nursing during treatment withAltinac

Altinac Side Effects

Some side effects have been noted down while studying the effects of Altinac skin cream and they are as follows:

  • It has been found that following the application of tretinoin to the skin, there often is local inflammation arises.
  • difficulty breathing
  • Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Burning
  • discolored skin
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Stinging
  • Allergic reactions

Reactions and Overdose

Reactions may happen if Altinac skin cream is used with the following medicines and situations:

  • Topical acne medications for example, salicylic acid
  • Use of abrasive soaps or cleansers
  • Use of skin astringents
  • Medications like, tetracycline or Achromycin
  • Sunlight (UV Rays)

In case of overdose happens the patient must see the doctor immediately.
