Fluocinolone is a skin treatment medicine used to treat different types of skin ailments and skin disorders in patients. It has been found with generic name of Tretinoin also. This medication is used to treat eczema, a skin condition that causes red, irritated, and itchy skin. Fluocinolone reduces these symptoms. This medication is a low- to medium-strength corticosteroid. This combination medication is used to treat melasma on the face. Melasma is a condition of dark patchy areas on the skin, especially on the cheeks and forehead. It sometimes occurs with hormone changes. This product contains 3 different kinds of medication. This skin treatment medicine is a reversible skin-bleaching agent. A retinoid increases skin shedding. Fluocinolone is a medium strength corticosteroid that reduces swelling, itching, and redness. This medication may improve your melasma, but it is not a cure. Continued exposure to some of the causes of melasma such as sunlight, estrogen-type birth control hormones may cause it to return.

How to Use

Before using, gently wash your face and neck with a mild soap less cleanser. Rinse and pat dry the skin. Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected area, including about 1/2 inch of normal-appearing skin around the affected area, once daily 30 minutes before bedtime or as directed by your doctor. Rub the medication into the skin gently and completely. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the area unless directed to do so by your doctor. This medication may make the treated areas of skin more sensitive to the sun. Avoid lengthened sun exposure, tanning booths, and sunlamps. You may also use a moisturizer and cosmetics during the day while using this medication. Avoid getting this product in your eyes or on the inside of your nose or mouth.

Cautions before using

The cautions, which are to be taken, are as follows:

  • Before using Fluocinolone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other corticosteroids such as hydrocortisone, prednisone
  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of asthma
  • Patients suffering from open sores or broken areas of skin (especially on the face or hands)
  • Patients suffering from eczema and psoriasis
  • Pregnant women and breast feeding mothers should take care before using this medicine

FLoucinolone Side effects

The side effects, which may occur due to use of FLoucinolone, are as follows:

  • Stinging, burning, irritation, dryness, or redness at the affected area may occur
  • Acne
  • Excessive hair growth
  • Skin thinning or discoloration,
  • Stretch marks may also occur
  • Numbness or tingling of hands and feet,
  • Increased pain or touch sensitivity on some parts of the body
  • Unusual or extreme tiredness
  • Weight loss
  • Headache
  • Swelling of ankles and feet
  • Increased thirst and urination,
  • Vision problems

Reactions and Overdose

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescribed and no prescribed medicines any herbal products you are using, especially of: other corticosteroids such as hydrocortisone, prednisone.

This medication may be harmful if swallowed. If swallowing or overdose is suspected, the patient should be taken to hospital or medical center immediately.
