Undecylenic acid is a medication that is basically used for skin fungal infections and belongs to the group of medicines called antifungals. Undecylenic acid is an organic unsaturated fatty acid derived from castor oil. It is used to treat some types of fungus infections. However, compound Undecylenic acid generally has been replaced by newer and more effective medicines for the treatment of fungus infections.it is a form of a fatty acid that fights with fungal infection on the skin. This medicine is sold under the same generic name of Undecylenic Acid. This medicine is used topically and is only meant for external application on skin for various problems such as athlete's foot, jock itch, diaper rash, prickly heat, excessive sweating in the groin area, itching, burning, and chafing. It is helpful in skin infections, and relieves itching, burning, and irritation and effective on skin infections such as herpes simplex.

How to use Undecylenic Acid Topical Cream

  • Undecylenic acid topical is usually applied twice a day. Wash your hands before and after using this medication.
  • Clean and dry the skin area to be treated. Apply enough of the medicine to cover the affected area and some of the skin around it. Apply cream generously to affected and surrounding areas. Rub in well.
  • If you are using undecylenic acid powder on your feet, sprinkle it onto all areas of the feet, between the toes, and into your socks and shoes. Avoid inhaling the powder.
  • You may use a light cotton-gauze dressing to protect your clothing from the medicine
  • Patients using the aerosol powder or aerosol foam form of this medicine are suggested to not to use this medicine near heat or flame or while smoking.

Cautions before Use Undecylenic Acid Topical Cream

  • Do not take this medicine without doctor’s permission. And do not use this product for extended periods after your skin
  • Keep this medicine away from the eyes. And do not use on pus-containing sores or on badly broken skin.
  • To help prevent reinfection after the period of treatment with this medicine, the powder or spray powder form of this medicine may be used each day after bathing and careful drying.
  • Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing such as nylon or woolen that doesn’t allow air circulation while using this medication.
  • Do not cover treated skin areas with adhesive bandages or dressings that do not allow air to get through.

Undecylenic Acid Topical Cream Side Effects

The side effects which may arise due to the usage of Undecylenic Acid Topical are as follows:

  • Unusual blistering
  • Peeling and itching
  • Redness, dryness, or irritation of treated skin
  • Swelling of face, lips and mouth
  • Allergic Rashes

Interactions and Overdose of Undecylenic Acid Topical Cream

This medicine may react with any other skin treatment lotions and creams. Avoid using skin products that can cause irritation, such as harsh soaps or skin cleansers, or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime while using this medicine to avoid any adverse reactions.

This medicine could be dangerous if swallowed but in case of any overdose people should contact their medical advisor immediately.
