Generic Name: Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin

Z Cof is an antibiotic to treat several viral and bacterial infections resulting flu symptoms. It has the active ingredients of two medications of Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin. This combination medication is used to temporarily treat cough, chest congestion, and stuffy nose symptoms caused by the common cold, flu, allergies, hay fever, or other breathing illnesses like sinusitis, bronchitis. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that helps to thin and loosen mucus in the lungs, making it easier to cough up the mucus. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that affects a certain part of the brain, reducing the urge to cough. This product also contains a decongestant, which helps relieve stuffy nose symptoms.

This medication is usually not used for ongoing coughs from smoking, asthma, other long-term breathing problems or coughs with a lot of mucus, unless directed by your doctor.
Z Cof has not been shown to be safe or effective in children younger than 6 years. Therefore, do not use this product to treat cold symptoms in children younger than 6 years unless specifically directed by the doctor.

How to Use Z Cof Cough Syrup

  • Take the tablet, capsule, or liquid form by mouth with or without food. Follow the directions for dosing on the label, or take as directed by your doctor.
  • Drink plenty of fluids when you use this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor. The fluid will help loosen the mucus in your lungs. This medication can be taken with food if stomach problem occurs.
  • If you are using the liquid form, use a medication measuring device to carefully measure the prescribed dose. Do not use a household spoon. If your liquid form is a suspension, shake the bottle well before each dose.
  • If you are using sustained-release tablets or capsules, swallow the medication whole. Do not crush or chew the tablets or capsules
  • Doctors may prescribed Z Cof 12DM, Z Cof 8DM, Z Cof HCX, Z Cof LA, Z Cof LAX, Z Cof DM, Z Cof DM obsolete, Z Dex, Z Dex 12 DM as per requirements as these arethe same medications used under different labels.

Cautions before Use Z Cof Cough Syrup

  • This drug may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness like handling heavy machinery or driving.
  • People who are suffering from diabetes should not take this medication.
  • Those patients who are suffering from eye problems like glaucoma should not take Z Cof.
  • People who have a history of kidney problems should avoid taking Z Cof.
  • People who have a medical history of heart problems or high blood pressure should not take this medication.
  • People who are suffering from enlarge prostate should not take this medication

The side effects which may occur due to the usage of Z Cof are as follows:

Z Cof Cough Syrup Interactions and Overdose

This product should not be used with the medications like MAO inhibitors such as furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine), sibutramine because very serious rarely fatal interactions may occur: Z Cof may not be used with beta blockers like metoprolol, atenolol, guanethidine, certain inhaled anesthetics, memantine, methyldopa, reserpine, tricyclic antidepressants (like amitriptyline, desipramine.

Symptoms of overdose may include agitation, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures. In this case patient should seek immediate medical attention
