Generic Name:Guaifenesin and Theophylline

Theolate is a medication that is prescribed for cough and cold problems. It contains 2 different drugs, an expectorant Guaifenesin and a bronchodilator Theophylline. The expectorant effects of Guaifenesin promote drainage of mucus from the lungs by thinning the mucus. It also lubricates the irritated respiratory tract. Theophyllin works in several ways: It relaxes muscles in your lungs and chest to increase airflow, decreases the sensitivity of your lungs to allergens and other substances that cause inflammation, and increases the contractions of your diaphragm so that more air is drawn into the lungs.Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth. Theophylline is a bronchodilator that relaxes blood vessels in the nasal passages to help in breathing in a relaxable way from lungs.Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion stuffy nose. Theolate is used to treat asthma, bronchitis, and Emphysema.

How to Use Theolate Spray

  • Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor.
  • If stomach upset occurs, take with food or milk. Scored Spray may be split for lower doses.
  • Drink a lot of water while taking this medication. Make sure to take the correct measuring spoon to take this medicine.
  • The dosage is based on the product you are taking and your age, medical condition, and response to treatment.
  • Do not take more of this medication, take it more often, or take it for longer than recommended. If your doctor directs you to take this medication daily, take it regularly as prescribed.

Cautions before Use Theolate Spray

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Guaifenesin or Theophylline the active ingredients of the medicine, or to other decongestants, diet pills, stimulants, or beta Blockers.

  • People who have heart disease should not take this medicine.
  • Those patients who are suffering from kidney disease should not use Theolate.
  • People who have a history of liver disease should be restricted from using this medication.
  • People who have a history of lung disease or have emphysema should not take this medication.
  • People who have a history of high blood pressure should check Theolate before taking.
  • People who have a history of overactive thyroid should not take Theolate.
  • Those patients who are suffering from fluid in lungs are restricted from using this medicine.
  • People who are suffering from stomach ulcer should not take this medication.
  • Those patients who are suffering congestive heart failure should not take this medicine.
  • People who are suffering from history of seizures should not take this medicine.

Theolate Spray Side Effects

The side effects which may due to the usage of Theolate are as follows:

  • Headache

Interactions and Overdose of Theolate Spray

Theolate may react with birth control pills, asthma medications, seizure medications, calcium channel blockers, ketoconazole, and beta blockers, MAO Inhibitors like furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and linezolid.

Symptoms of overdose with Theolate may include excitement, tremor, restlessness, insomnia, fast heartbeat and breathing, dilated pupils, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures. In these situations people should get prompt medical support.
