Generic Name:Thiabendazole

Thiabendazole is a prescribed medication used to treat worms in the body. Thiabendazole is used to treat infections caused by worms such as whipworm, pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm. It is also used to treat infections caused by more than one of these worms at the same time. Thiabendazole tablets and suspension is normally known for its worm killing properties, which is a type of medicine called an anthelmintic. It is used to treat certain types of worm infections of the gut. Thiabendazole wormer works by preventing worms from being able to absorb sugars that are essential for their survival. This depletes the energy stores of the worms, leading to their eventual death within a few days. The dead worms are then excreted from the gut in the stools. For treating roundworm, hookworm or whipworm infections, one dose is needed twice a day for three days.

How to use Thiabendazole Tablets

  • Take each dose with a full glass of water. Thiabendazole tablets may be swallowed, chewed, or crushed and mixed with food.
  • Thiabendazole suspension should be shaken well before giving a dose. Take all of the Thiabendazole that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better.
  • It may be up to 3 days after treatment before the worm is removed from your stomach and intestines. The amount of time it takes to cure the infection depends on how susceptible the worm is to Thiabendazole, and how quickly your own digestive system is moving. If the infection has not been cured within 3 weeks, a second treatment may be necessary.
